I got it.

:)

Now I need to find a nice quiet cabin in the trees where I can go and think this winter -- preferably next to a ski lift.

oh hey, btw - do you ever play Go online (KGS for example)? I haven't been playing much lately, but I noticed mention of playing in your CV...

I've played on IGS a few times under the name gorat. But I'm terrrible! Like 17kyu or something. Embarrassing. And it's been awhile. I've been meaning to get back into it though. Do you play on IGS, and what's your nick?

If you're 17kyu on IGS you're probably not terrible (probably closer to 10-13kyu AGS) - they have serious rank deflation there (I'd probably be mid-teens on IGS too - I'm about 10 or 11 on KGS). But people aren't very friendly there (they don't talk at all, and when they do, they're rude), so I've stuck to KGS (kgs.kiseido.com), which has a nice java client gui and friendlier people.

I don't even know if I can remember any of my old nic's - their all variants on pbrane/peabrain/dpbrain/etc... but if you wanted to play/chat sometime, I could resurrect my account (preferably on KGS if you're willing to switch) and hop on.

For some reason, the desription of your work made me think of this: http://xkcd.com/c123.html

And congratulations!

Cool, I've been toying with the idea of adding xkcd to my daily breakfast of user friendly, non sequitur, dilbert, doonesbury, and PhD -- and now I will.

Good job G. I am proud of you. When you were telling me about the grant app, I went and read around on the foundation, and it looks like they really know what they are talking about. I can't wait for you to finish your work.

Perhaps you will need a social visit this winter? I just saw Rion a couple days ago, and we have started discussing where we should go.

Finish? Who said anything about finish? I've been trying to set up work that would last me forever.

I will look forward to a visit from you guys. Unfortunately, I just talked with the owner of the house in Colorado and he's sold it -- damn! (Probably good timing on his part though.)

So now it's up in the air as to where I'll end up. Whistler looks nice -- I really should talk to Rion. Do you think his parents might welcome a physicist house sitter/renter?

woohoo! that so kicks ass :) congratulations.

They even gave you more money than Brian Greene or Eva Silverstein.

I think it's funny that they gave money to Simon Saunder's just for saying "Hey guys, let's have a debate about Everett!" I wish I'd thought of submitting that; would have taken 10 minutes to suggest :) (Although I am tempted to go to it... hmmm)

And the money has no strings attached. ;)

I am impressed by how many "foundations of QM" projects got funded. I guess it made sense to sponsor a conference for them to gather at. Should be fun.

Looking over the awards... it looks like they built a well rounded Magic deck. And I'm the sole "whacky TOE" card.

Returning to the house in Frisco was first choice -- but I just found out Chuck sold it. :(

Let me know if you hear about someone who's renting someplace nice in Summit County.
